Strangler Fig Heaven

The strangler fig tree wraps around its host.

This fruit tree survives while its host becomes a ghost.

This “keystone” species is a food source for many.
It is an important oasis of vibrant plenty.

Monkeys come to taste the sweet fruits.

Even this tree parasite has positive attributes.

This tree needs to climb up other trees to get to the light.

Its hollow center a reminder of its fight.

As it took over another tree.

And gathered the light … so it could be.
But as it took one life away.

Others gathered to eat and play.
As the fruits ripen there is playful banter and strife.

Because the fruits of this tree are a beacon of life.

In the summer heat … I tied up some plants.

Cut the grass and fed the transplants.

As one thing flowers another drifts away.

Another arises to amaze with its display.

A garden is a creature of many delights.

The cats lounge on the grass and play with the sights.

As the sun beats down with its relentless gaze.

The animals curl up and their eyes glaze.

The time of plenty has arrived and everyone is full.

It is time to relax and let go of the push and the pull.

In the cool shelter of the umbrella and trees.

I close my eyes and listen to the breeze.

I thank the gods and goddesses that exist.

And feel Mother Earth give me a kiss.

Too often we forget to thank all the life that abounds.

Too often we don’t listen to the sights and the sounds.

And that is how we miss many great things.

And forget that from small beginnings all life springs.
