Poem – A Fire and a Cup

Poem – A Fire and a Cup

Today, the clouds hold the rain loosely in hand
The trees remind us of the leaves that will soon fall on the land.
The winds tone changes like a chime.
Winter whispers that soon cold weather will be something to climb.

We will climb out of bed to start a warm fire.
We will cozy up and dream, more of desire.
We recognize that soon the land will become white.
We want to fall asleep early, to have a longer night.

The animals from the forest call and are waiting for me.
They are eager to eat and store up with the food offered for free.
I walk in silence compared to the strong winds through the trees.
The ghosts of the seasons pass through with the power of a banshee.

I am busy being warmed and warned.
The leaves falling leave the trees unadorned.
Deep inside the silence, I am hearing a great noise.
I listen to the songs that nature employs.

As the days shorten into a longer night.
I want to ease the concerns and lessen the fight.
In the stillness that comes during a raging storm.
You will find me by the fire and with a cup to keep warm.
