Poem – Breakfast For The Ravens

Poem – The Breakfast for the Ravens

Today I got a surprise and what did I see.
But the ravens decided to talk back to me.
I saw the cat hiding under the car.
The ravens knew it also and watched in the trees from afar.

I know that this cat wants to play the lead.
When I put out the food, it comes out to feed.
The ravens let me know with squawks and clicks.
And I come back out to attempt a fix.

So this time today, I decided to stand outside.
This way the feral cat would have to decide.
You see he wants to eat the food as well.
Even though he is as big as a bell.

I had already fed him and his tummy is full.
But that did not diminish that he wanted to show his pull.
So this time I stood so that the cat could see me.
Yet the ravens still watched safe in the tree.

I told the cat to behave and not be so greedy.
I told the ravens that they could eat if they were speedy.
The ravens looked clearly at the cat.

And decided to let me know where they were at.

Because suddenly from one came a loud meow.
I stood there stunned and raised an eyebrow.
Did they just let me know that they knew it was a cat.
And made that sound like a copycat.

They clearly knew the sound the cats made.
And warned me that he misbehaves.
Astounded at how smart they really were.
Inside my heart something did stir.

I agreed and made the sound back.
Telling them that I knew it was a very greedy cat.
That is when the cat finally turned away.
And left the ravens to their breakfast buffet.
