Poem – Emma and Me

Poem – Emma and Me

I look in a store window and in the reflection … someone looks back.

She is dressed in an old way with tiny bones and a stylish hat.

She is not pretty but she is much like a tiny moth.

She looks into my soul, in lace like a tablecloth.

There is a bit of fog as we stare into each other’s eyes.

There is no fear nor any element of surprise.

She knows me and somehow … I know her.

I wait because I know to be ready for something to occur.

She looks up and points to the apartment above.

I know that is her home and a place that she loves.

She takes my hand and we walk in the heat.

And pop out in front of a theater with busy streets.

She and I walk through the dancers gait.

No one stops me nor asks me to wait.

I walk the halls that are so familiar and clear.

I feel the longing of her heart so dear.

And out into the audience we go to sit.

To watch a ballet rehearsal a few rows back from the pit.

I know this place and I am not afraid.

I know this space as one that I have previously played.

And she looks at me and says, “Isn’t it grand?”.

Our wrists are the same just like the bones in our hand.

She is me and I am her.

We are here to connect and concur.

That in this moment where two paths meet.

We should linger because it is special and so sweet.
