Poem – On the Coast

There are times that one just needs to get away.
Off to the coast I go without hesitation or delay.
To listen to the waves as they crash on the shore.
Being by the ocean is never a bore.

The overcast sky, is soothing in the summer heat.
It is the best way to relax and have a retreat.
While the sun rises early on these June days.
By the coast, I appreciate the gray haze.

There is something about the sea that calls to our souls.
Mankind has forever enjoyed its watery shoals.
The air is clean and the salt balances our minds.
Thoughts drift away as the strong winds unwind.

I plan to take a walk along the coastal trail.
The longer I walk the deeper the exhale.
The ocean can take the emotions and shift their intent.
It turns things around and erases dissent.

So, today, as I walk calmly along the shore.
I remember that life is to discover how to soar.
And just like the majestic seagulls flying high.
I too and learning to let myself fly.
