Poem – The Women and Her Leopard
I had a dream that I was a woman black as the night.
My hair was thick and reflected the light.
I was braiding my hair into a crown.
The strength in my arms was powerful and profound.
She looked at life with acceptance and trust.
She dealt with conflict without drama or fuss.
She knew what to do and how to make things work.
She was fully alive, and her authenticity had no quirk.
She sat in a circle filled with stone.
Beside her sat a leopard that was all her own.
Together they walked along the ancient pathway.
People stopped and gave them the leeway.
They walked as one heart and one soul in that time.
They were not separate they were of one mind.
Together they had managed to raise each other in this human wild.
They were learning to walk this earth and be reconciled.
They knew they belonged both in the jungle and on this human path.
They knew that there were those filled with hate and wrath.
That is why they walked together down the street.
Because together everyone knew that they could not be beat.
