Poem – This Summer

Poem – This Summer

This summer has been unseasonably cool.
The breezes soften and the light like a sapphire jewel.
Soft the perfumes of spring linger in the air.
The oceans clouds invade my deck chair.

While the tomatoes long for more heat and sun.
I am grateful for the cool that allows my heart to run.
While the crowds that want to crush the beaches gather.
I sit watching the waves in quiet places that matter.

My mind wanders past the cliffs and the sand.
I become the tree learning to accept where I stand.
The dustiness of heat is caught in the damp mud.
Inside my heart beats the power of a dragon’s blood.

The winds inspire the water’s will.
Flower petals have fallen on the windowsill.
Blown by the winds of time and fate.
I watch the leaves blowing past the garden gate.
