Poem – If I Were A Ghost

If I were to be a ghost, I wonder who I would want to haunt.
Who would I lovingly follow or leave them in great want?

Who would I not allow for them to forget my face?
Who would I shower with love and forgive with grace?

I believe that I would be a ghost exactly as I have tried to live.
I would whisper the truths to those open and that intended to give.

I would walk familiar pathways of my past selves from other lives.
I would frighten those whose intention was to harm with hidden knives.

I would give hope to those lost and alone.
I would cultivate regret for those first to throw a stone.

I think it might be fun to wander this earth without social limitations or fears.
I could make lots of noise and soften some tears.

But at a point I would want to leave this density for the glorious light.
And off I would wander to my soul’s delight.

In meeting all the saints, I am sure they will smile and laugh.
They will tip their hats and hand me a staff.

Because during my life I worked hard to awaken the truth.
And even as a ghost I operated as a divine sleuth.

Being human can be very hard.
Life is a pathway that can leave one scarred.

But it is in the broken parts that the light finally shines through.
Because a broken heart learns to always be true.
