Blog – Words and Rain
I remember the rain that fell in Berlin.
I remember the dark clouds and feeling socked in.
I remember the tiny apartment that looked out on those grey days.
I remember the confusion and my mind in a haze.
I would gather my courage and go out to the stores.
I would try to converse but felt like a dinosaur.
Learning to converse in another way.
I made many mistakes as I tried to display.
The courage to reach out and connect with others.
Those that responded were mostly other mothers.
They tried not to smile as I butchered their words.
They would keep things simple and point to the birds.
Then we would sit on the benches outside.
With our bags in hand and nothing to hide.
And enjoy the brief moments of sun and smiles.
Sharing a moment of being and our endless miles.
That we journeyed to be here now.
Just being with another … even not knowing how.
