Poem – January
January, a winter wonderland of delights.
The snow glitters endlessly in the deepening nights.
People walk like marshmallows in a storm.
Winds whip the snow into a swarm.
Intentions are made to do something grand.
Young girls dream of being tanned.
We live in the quiet that swallows sound.
Footprints in snow but no animal can be found.
As the icicles grow long off the roof.
We hope that our plans are foolproof.
January asks us to be still and gather courage.
We seek to be positive and not to discourage.
As we begin the New Year.
It is important to not show any fear.
What lies ahead is a mystery to be solved.
Clarity will come just as ice dissolves.
Let the darkness lend us to deeper sleep.
Let us rest from the effort that continually creeps.
Take some time to sit by the fire.
Read a book and listen to a choir.
January is a very peaceful time.
Cook those stews with lots of thyme.
Nourish the soul and spread good cheer.
Before you know it, we will be at the end of another year.
