Poem – Spirit Bear

Inside my soul is a spirit bear.
One that is calm and beyond compare.
She is the embodiment of the dark and the light.
She is at home in the day and the night.

She looks at mankind with a curious gaze.
She knows who she is and understands life’s maze.
She lingers in the peaceful places of the north.
She loves to wander and travel back and forth.

She does not rush. There is no need to push.
She lingers in the areas of the blackberry bush.
She is sweet, but she is not afraid.
She will take on all comers and will not be swayed.

People see her and wonder at the sight.
They did not know that a black bear could be so bright.
In the dark wastelands of mankind’s mind.
She arrives to help them remember and to remind.

All that is light still carries some dark.
All that is hidden has wisdom to impart.
What mankind believes … is not always so.
What they want … is often the first thing to go.
