Courage comes not from knowing
that one will succeed but in realizing
that without courage one will surrender
one’s life to tyrants. And that understanding
becomes unacceptable to those souls
that are pure of heart and mind.

I was watching the use of the Ukrainians use the Molotov Cocktails on the advancing Russian invasion of Ukraine. And I recognized that the word, “Molotov” is probably Russian.
That is when I went to Wikipedia for more information. For the past 3 years I donate $5 each month to Wikipedia, as such things are invaluable to me in the quest to understanding. And I have been doing that donation for years.

Wikipedia states that the words, “Molotov Cocktail” was created by the Finnish people when they faced off with the Soviet Army because the Finns refused to surrender to the Red Army in WWII.
The name was to target Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Molotov, a Soviet Politician whose title was the “People’s Commissar for Foreign Affairs or the Foreign Minister of the Soviet Union.

I find it perfectly fitting that this label was to become a weapon against the Soviets and that the Finns created an incendiary device using what the people had on hand at the time, such as: alcohol, methanol, or ethanol.
The top of the bottle was closed with a cork or something that would be tight sealing, made of rubber, glass, or plastic. A rag or cloth is securely tied around the mouth and first they soak the rag in a flammable liquid and gets immediately thrown at a target.
When the bottle breaks, it explodes.

There are many variations of this using other substances that are available.
The use of some things will allow the fire to cling to the target and last longer with additional heat and hopefully impact.
The Russian man, Molotov, started by saying that the Army was delivering Molotov Bread Baskets by air.
But they were really bombs.

The response from the Finns was to return the insult with their “Molotov Cocktails”.
They were incredibly effective to stop the advance of tanks in WWII.

I find it interesting how up to date Wikipedia is because in their description of the Molotov Cocktails, they have that they are being used in the Ukraine Conflict in late February of 2022.
