We have been busy splitting wood for our wood burning stoves. We have three of them because we have three buildings, and they all have different sizes of stoves that have also various depth and some with a few idiosyncrasies.

I think that all things can have a type of personality. Including wood burning stoves.

Some can take large chunks of wood and others need to have small pieces to start and slowly bring in larger pieces.
In the process of splitting the wood it is interesting how (one would be wise) to figure out how to move each piece of wood … the fewest times possible.
Last year we took out some big trees and had the big equipment movers drag the trees over to a wood processing pile area.
That way we could take the chain saws and cut them into manageable pieces and then take them over to the splitter.

So far, we have filled the upper building’s wood pile. It is raring to go for the winter rains and cold.

The house wood pile is considerably larger (for obvious reasons) and we need 7 rows of wood stacked for the winter. We are 6 rows at the moment.

Almost There!

I will be going out this morning to do more splitting and then stacking the wood while it is cool. The sun comes and hits the splitter around 11 am and it gets hot.

And I am not good in heat.

I guess I should get started.

I am enjoying the cooling weather and in a few weeks, we are going to be up to our ears in tomatoes.

Then it is time for making tomato sauces, and all the canning things.
