The Dance of Terpsichore – Life

Every dancer will lay everything on the line.

In each dance … we reach beyond our own body, beyond our own training, and intend to scale the heights into an elusive world that is dreamed of … but not always completely touched.
When we dance … we carry the dreams of ourselves and others up into the sky.
Sometimes we touch the stars, and sometimes we fall. But every dancer is straining against the gravity that is … to be human.

Dancers are more attuned and understand that to transcend the moment and to become the magic inside … that we cannot do it alone.
We intuitively know that we are being lifted into the air by the skill of composers, the talent of the musicians, the moods created by the stage designers, the spellcraft of the costume designers, the faith of the choreographers, and the wonder of an enchanted audience.
But there is something even more important. There is a frequency that once touched … we all know that we are infinite … and we are not alone.
It is that spirit of dance that dances with us, through us, and breathes even more life into us.
To dance is to learn to let the cells in one’s body to sing so powerfully that the vibration of our passion within … can be felt by others in such a way that audiences can fly into our experience, and in that special moment … somehow … we all become one.
When it all works … we have the power to carry others along on our journey.
The observer feels what we feel, they are lifted out of their own troubles, and they remember and taste the feeling of their own limitless internal potential.
Dancers are the embodiment of the dreams of others awakening.

Dancers are the deaths in life transcended.

Dancers are the hope and remembrance of a possibility.

Every dancer remembers those times when the Muse of Dance, “Terpsichore,” touched us and when she decided … that for unknown reasons … we were worthy.

Those moments of magic take us beyond our own ego, beyond our own skill, and move us in ways that we recognize that something divine has decided to touch this world through our devotion, our desire, our hard work, and our endless silent prayers to become more than we are in this human condition.

It is a type of synchronistic merging between souls that explodes out.
It is a burst of ecstatic connection that ripples out and into the audience.
It is so powerful that it can forever change a soul watching.
It can reignite hope and heal despair.
It can cause the dreams in others to become conscious and alive. And it can open closed hearts.
Performances are special because (for each dancer) we do not get many chances to give this gift to an audience.

All the rehearsals are the preparation required for those special moments.
Everything is asked to come together in those instances.

We are asked to show an audience … everything.

Performing is a process of being willing to unmask and to show others the deepest parts of ourselves.

Dancing for an audience is a type of intimacy that most will never experience in a lifetime.
But they may witness our journey towards vulnerability, openness, and love … in such a way that hopefully … spontaneously … they can, for brief moments, merge with us … and together, we flow into a moment that is beyond time and this density.

We reach to be the purest expression of our love, our passion, our devotion, our skill, and all our emotions.

Dancing … for any dancer … is a prayer.
It is a yearning so strong that it is a scream in the silence.
It is the drive for excellence through meticulous attention to subtlety.
It is a voice to feelings that are beyond words.
It is a scent of pure love traveling through the winds of time.
In dance, we attempt to express the highest parts of the spiritual self, while embracing the lowest parts of our emotional confusions, and accepting the limitations of our physical form.

To a dancer, the dance never stops it just changes form.

Grace does not disappear with age … it just matures as the definition of beauty changes.
Passion does not diminish … it just softens and is enjoyed without the rush of youth.
Life becomes the dance, and we finally understand that it is always taking us on its ride.

That is when we know that life is the greatest performance going in this world.
We finally see that all of us are artists on that stage, and we all are the audience learning to marvel at the intricate manifestations that Terpsichore is endlessly weaving to enchant us, to capture our spirit, and to invite us again … into her dance.
