Suzanne’s Personal Blog About Navigating the Dynamics of Telling a Story

I am noticing that the daily challenges in my life are building in interesting ways. I won’t say that things aren’t working because they are. But the level of energy all these things take seems higher than normal. I am sure others are noticing that same thing. I learned a long time ago that we are all in this astrological cycle together and that these aspects hit all of us in various ways.
The daily challenges of navigating the problems of a mother with dementia to keep her calm and engaged while putting out fires that are an illusion in her mind is a new type of strain that I am still getting used to.
I am also working intensely on my Ballet Book and as my friend and editor, Geraldine, has reminded me, “Writing is about rewriting!” I am learning that that is very true. The challenge that she and I have at this point is not about getting every story in, but creating a story that has continuity and flow without getting distracted off the three storylines that we are working with. This makes some very interesting stories go “Bye-Bye!” because they are so powerful that they also detract from a theme or message that we are attempting to create.
She reminds me that readers can get too distracted easily and too much of that makes them get frustrated and not want to continue reading.
We are currently at chapter 19 and hitting some snags because we have multiple storylines we could take, but deciding on the proper course is what is at issue.
Add to it all, I have many people in my life that are also going through much, and it seems that so many things are pulling on me, and I have limited time or actually no time to manage it all.
I am just putting all this out there so that everyone can relate and understand that these times in which we live are challenging for all of us.
Remember to be kind to those that are pulling on you as well. Everyone needs something it seems, and it will be up to all of us to figure out how to make things work in a way that we have some energy left over for ourselves.
