Blog for 8/17/2023 – Out And About in Westport, California
Yesterday, we went exploring. The exploration was for beaches that we did not know about. It was interesting not note that google maps is not up to date on the latest climate changes to the northern Californian coastline. Clearly, those bit atmospheric rivers took their toll on certain exposed beaches. Many roads were completely gone if they were running parallel to Hwy 1. But the wonderful souls that put in foot paths with railroad ties did an amazing job creating pathways to the beaches. After getting down to one beach, it was clear way the erosion was so severe. The upper layer was very crumbly and would come apart in your hand if you grabbed it. It made for unstable ground even walking on it. Seems the lower layer is some pretty dense rocks and boulders which is why the coastline is so speckled with those lovely rocky outcroppings in the ocean and on the lower edges.
Being in this two-bedroom house looking out on the ocean in Westport has been so calming and lovely. They have a 72-step staircase going down the cliff to get to a small private beach that is maintained by the city of Westport.
The quiet is lovely, you could just leave me here forever. I am grateful that we live close enough to enjoy these moments occasionally. And at least it is cool here by comparison to what others are currently experiencing.
Hope all of you can at some point explore the northern California coast and the northwest areas with the great redwood trees.
Have a lovely day.
