Unmasking Grief
Melody Burt and Laurie Knowley will be co-facilitating this class. For the most part our culture does not acknowledge death as being a normal part of life. Loss is a common and profound human experience, yet most people are afraid to talk about it. We avoid the subject because we are uncomfortable with it. Once the services are over, those who are grieving are supposed to get over it quickly so that the rest of us can all feel better. There is no place within our fast-paced instant gratification, fast-food, mega-bandwidth culture for recognizing and supporting those who do not “get over it” the way we want them to. We want to create a safe space of deep feeling and healing, where people can speak the name of the ones who have passed and for people to tell their stories. We will focus on healing grief through art in a safe space where participants can express themselves. (No previous art experience is necessary.)
