What is the essential nature of power (the number 10) and how does one cultivate power? The Number 10 is like a tiger just before it springs. The muscles are tense, waiting for the right moment to leap into this new reality that will arrive tomorrow with the eclipse.
But just like that tiger, our eyes are looking directly at something, and we are riveted on that goal.
To have power is to know tension intimately.
Tension has to be learned … to be embraced. Too often we associate tension with something bad. But tension is there to prepare you for reaching and stretching beyond the familiar.
Meditative spiritual practices ask us to learn how to relax and let go. But there are other martial arts, spiritual practices, like Kung Fu, Aikido, and Karate that teach how to embrace the balance between tension and relaxation.
Dance does the same.
In these bodily spiritual practices, we learn how to work the dance between the two energies, the yin and the yang to find that illusive doorway to power.
Power comes from knowing how to embrace and work with both sides of these energies that are intrinsic to living in a dualistic world.
There is a magical force between tension and release. It allows one to momentarily suspend the rules of gravity and experience the sensations of flight.
Today, notice where you have tension and where you might be needing to learn how to release and let go. Notice if one of those elements is more familiar and comfortable to you. Then cultivate the other. When we learn how to balance both, we will discover new ways to be in this world in ways that show expertise and potential. We cultivate power not by lounging in those places of comfort but by leaning into the places we are not.
