Today, reflect on the amazing ancestors that worked and toiled so that you could be here now. Even if they might have had some challenging characteristics in their personality, their intensity and determination was carved into your soul and may at times give you the little bit of extra juice to keep going in the face of seemingly insurmountable obstacles.

This is a moment to feel honored by their efforts and to see their traits as a part of your inner spiritual tool kit for when times get tough.

I had a great grandmother whose husband worked on the railroads (as the Irish were not give much opportunity). But he died accidently being coupled when two trains were being connected, and he slipped. Left with 4 children and no financial compensation, the trainmen took pity on her and allowed her and the children to live in a box car while it was moving. My great grandmother made food for the trainmen in compensation and after 4 years of living on the train, because of the trainmen … she knew that the Oklahoma Territories were going to be opened up and knew where the trainlines were going to be and the towns for the train stations. With a covered wagon and two oxen, she loaded her children up on the wagon and headed out to claim her land and to give her family a chance. When they fired the gun and everyone took off, she headed to a place that the trainmen had scoped out for her and where a station was going to be built. There she planted her flag and with her 4 children, she built a small hostel for the train men. And that is how she made it through and survived.

I feel her strength and determination strongly in me. And when I get into a place where I want to collapse, I hear her voice in my head say, “I did not go through what I went through to have my great granddaughter collapse over something as trivial as this. Get up! Take your power! Make your life count for something! I did it and so can you!”

I can’t tell you how many times her voice shifted me and got me out of wallowing and into a more proactive place.

I share this story because I am sure inside of all of you, there are ancestors that are prompting you and supporting your dreams and ambitions.

Today is a day to find those voices, hear their call, and remember that regardless of what you are going through, your ancestors went through so much more hardship.

Embrace the good and the bad in your life. Call on the ancestors to gives you the strength when you need it. They are there. I am sure of it. But sometimes, you might need to ask.
