1 + 7 = 8

With the Number 8, with each breath we are asked to let go some more. With each inhale we have to learn to let in the small gifts life offers. Life is a give and take. Endless lessons in receiving and letting go.

Too many of us try to grasp onto the past and not let things go. We hold onto things as anchors for memories of better times. But life requires us to let things go … in order to grow. And people hang onto the good and the bad from their pasts equally at times.

This can end up making us all look like bag ladies and men, hoarding things from places of desperation and denial. We do not want to look into the future because we fear it will not be as good as the past. The past can for many hold a rosy tinge to its reality and the future looms in a scary fog that seems to ask us to risk into uncharted territories.

But not growing and clinging onto what we have had is never the solution that it seems, nor the outcome that will give us what we want. This can cause us to fall into despair and sorrow. And that can cause the brain to create neural pathways that are toxic, jaded, and sarcastic about any future, even when confronted with the hopeful potential right in front of them.

Such souls, refuse to embrace the now and instead go back to their dark and dreary rooms or homes, overflowing with non-essentials that show a cluttered mind and a desperate heart that attempts to go backward rather than forward.

Today, don’t let that happen to you. Take a moment to embrace this precious life and risk letting things go.
