Poem – An Irish Heart

An Irish heart understand suffering and pain.
But it holds a wisdom that knows that there is no gain.

Holding on tight to what will never be.
Only causes more suffering to you and me.

An Irish heart knows that tomorrow is another day.
And because of that there is no need to dismay.

Because an Irish heart is generous and kind.
It has weathered the worst from religion and mankind.

It knows that what sustains is not hate or fear.
It knows that one must hold tight to all we hold dear.

While this world is constantly in a fight with evil.
It also knows that change requires upheaval.

An Irish heart knows that good always comes back around.
That is why we sing songs and play with our feet stomping the ground.

We sing to the pain and turn it into myth.
We sing to the sorrow and drink another fifth.

We appreciate a warm soup that was cooked above a fire.
And we practice sharing all the things that we admire.

If you have any part of your heart that is Irish inside.
Around me … you do not need to let it hide.

If your eyes are green and your hair sparkles like fire.
I am not afraid of your laugher or your ire.

Come dance with me and let us sing to a better day.
And as we do, let us chase the hate in this world away.
