Poem – Every Life is a Quilt

I look at my life like it is a patchwork quilt.
Bits of fabric sewn together, with threads of silk.
The fabric was gathered from far and wide.
The silk threads were woven with great care and pride.

To some it may look confusing and strange.
But it just reflects all the many times that I did change.
Some plan a life and make life fit into their ideal shapes.
Sometimes mine looks more like many vines of grapes.

Not one the same, but all bunched in a row.
Ravens on the branches, and moles down below.
But my quilt has been comforting and has kept many warm.
It has weathered many journeys and many types of storms.

It is colorful and bright, even though places are worn.
It comforted those with great loss and babies that were born.
My quilt is so beautiful because it was used with love.
It is a part of the living … with the spirit of a dove.
