Poem – Life is Supposed to be More Fun

The older I get, the more I want peace.
I cannot deal with those who refuse to let the drama cease.

We live in a world that has enough for all.
Yet, over and over, small things become a free-for-all.

I do not understand the focus that our culture has.
That we need an upset to make us feel bad.

Are we so blind that we need to be hit on the head?
Is there not enough sorrow, pain, and dread?

I long for the day when we teach compassion in schools.
And all of humanity decides to follow good and honest rules.

Until then, I will sit back and watch the setting sun.
On my porch because I believe life is supposed to be more fun.
