Poem – Listen To Your Heart

Listen to your heart and you will know the way.
Listen to your heart and let love lead you past dismay.
Many souls will come across our path.
Some are divine, and some might be in need of a bath.

But all are souls that have struggled in this life.
All are seeking relief from the struggle and strife.
Life will lift us up … only to throw us down.
But it is up to us to make a smile out of a frown.

We cannot cure all of mankind’s woes.
And some of us struggle just to touch our toes.
But we can give what we have and share what we know.
We can freely listen even if we do not have an answer to bestow.

I have learned that compassion in the face of hate.
Will not change minds but it allows my soul through a gate.
That gate is a doorway to a peaceful place.
One that sees clearly and refuses to debase.

Without the compassion my heart, it would feel too heavy to hold.
Without knowing who I am … my soul would be icy cold.
I watch so many wander through life … shut down.
The most obvious thing they wear is a scowling frown.

That would never do, and I will never let that transpire.
I would rather love as much as I can before I expire.
I refuse to leave this life with any hate in my heart.
I want to walk with forgiveness and love before I depart.
