Poem – Sometimes The Bullets Are In The Words

I know that there are ancient evil souls that come into this world and are born.
But I find that most were good people whose gifts were endlessly scorned.

When the good inside of us is rejected and stomped into the ground.
Eventually that can become a place where evil can be found.

With profound sadness I watch many that I have cared for … falter and fall.
They think they are wise, but they are caught up in evils thrall.

It is in those moments that I realize there is nothing that can be done.
They have chosen to walk a path where compassion is thrown away and replaced with a gun.

Sometimes the bullets are in the words that they use.
Sometimes it is in the way that they justify while they abuse.

I cannot stay to watch as evil takes more and more control.
I have to make hard choices that allow my heart to remain open and whole.

Such moments carry profound sadness at what they cannot see will come.
They do not realize that their choices will leave them nowhere to run.
