Poem – The Stones of our Hearts
In the hearts of the Irish lands.
Stood a stone … very old and grand.
No one remembers from whence it came.
No one remembers the souls that placed it to reclaim.
It marks a place that was special to that moment in time.
And those that saw it, remembered a story and a line.
In the fields it has stood so tall and grand.
A whispered longing from hearts that belonged to this land.
Listen closely and you will hear the dreams of a heart long ago.
These lonely fields now the witness to a love and many a rainbow.
Tears have fallen in this soil and the rain still hears their call.
This is the Emerald Isle, we are in Ireland after all.
We are a people intimately connected to the land.
We are a part of nature and the winds that are so very grand.
The winters in life will come and in the spring they will go.
But the markers of stone remember, and hear the fairies whisper to the crow.
I come from the land where the earth meets the sea.
Doe Castle was the place where my ancestors could always be.
My heart still sings deep in these stones.
In my Irish heart … music and nature lives in my bones.
You can take the Irish away from our land.
But with every breath, we remember how to speak up and stand.
The stones of our hearts will stand forever in time.
And our songs will always be sung in the hearts of the sublime.
I long for the green waters of an Irish creek.
I yearn for the grass so thick within to sleep.
I long for the clouds to move with my mood in the day.
I yearn for those moments to wander like a stray.
To sit in the dimming light of the roaring sunset in the west.
And to feel the breezes blow through my scarlet hairs nest.
Within a moment can be a lifetime of change.
And in a breath can be wonders so magical and strange.
I love the Irish that sings within me.
I am the song that my ancestors always longed to be.
Today, I celebrate the brave hearts that were cast away.
But their willingness to leap has brought me here today.
And as I remember that my heart will always be in this land.
I find my footing because I know finally … how to truly stand.
