Poem – We Begin To Put Hate Behind

It takes so much courage to live in this time.
It take all of us to call out hate as a crime.

We live in a world that has tried to paralyze the good.
Yet, even in fear I have seen so many that stood.

Stood up to those that wanted to tear freedoms down.
Stood up to some crazy, demented, orange-faced clown.

In the future, some will look upon this day.
And wonder at how it ever got this way.

There will those that will never admit and will refuse to see.
That they were duped with all the lies and grandiosity.

What lies ahead is a messy and turbulent road.
Because even now, there are those that intend freedom to erode.

I cherish all of those who saw through the haze.
And stood up to those that wanted to set this country ablaze.

The days that follow are going to be quite a time.
Because of those who want to make war and commit crime.

I am sure it will take a very long time.
For any of those souls to ever change their mind.

They would rather fester the hate that they cultivated inside.
And lash out at any souls that they cannot abide.

We cannot let them do to our land.
What happened in history when hate was held as a brand.

I celebrate all the colors and flavors of our nation.
I know we are better with all immigrants’ donations.

I refuse to allow my mind to cultivate separation.
I refuse to allow lies to foster inflated frustration.

I believe there are no pure bloods in humanity.
Admitting we are all mutts takes away vanity and brings sanity.

Now things are going to begin to unwind.
And perhaps finally we can begin to put hate behind.
