Poem – Coming Home
In France I wandered, with adventure aflame,
Through cobblestone streets and fields of gold,
But now I return to my roots untamed,
To the redwood trees, where my heart takes hold.
Oh, California, land of grandeur and grace,
With sunlit vistas, a painter’s delight,
I stand in awe of your wide-open space,
As the ocean’s whisper brings me respite.
Upon the horizon, where sky meets sea,
A dance of colors, a masterpiece rare,
In nature’s embrace, I find solace and glee,
Breathing the fresh air, forgetting my cares.
Amidst the giants, these ancient sentinels,
Their branches reaching for the heavens above,
I feel the connection, the stories they tell,
Welcoming me back with unconditional love.
Their towering presence, a humbling sight,
Their wisdom whispers through every breeze,
In their sanctuary, my spirit takes flight,
As I find myself, grounded and at ease.
No longer a wanderer, I’m here to stay,
In this sacred land, my heart finds repose,
Where redwoods stand tall, guiding my way,
A place where my soul forever knows.
So I embrace this homecoming with glee,
With gratitude for the memories I’ve gleaned,
The redwoods, the ocean, all that I see,
In their embrace, I am forever redeemed.
