Poem – Korčula
Korčula, a jewel in the Adriatic Sea,
A Croatian island where history runs free.
With shores kissed by waves of crystal blue,
This land sings to the beauty that lies in you.
In ancient times, her walls were raised high,
A fortress of stone reaching up to the sky.
A Venetian legacy, of mixed medieval charm,
Korčula, you’ve weathered many moments of alarm.
Narrow alleys twist and turn in your heart,
Where every step feels like a work of art.
Straight streets encourage the western winds.
Curved roads thwart the storm’s twins.
The Moreska dance, a spectacle grand,
A tradition kept alive, across the land.
Sword-clashing heroes in masks of old,
Their battles of honor, a sight to behold.
Vineyards and olive groves adorn your land,
Producing wines and oils in high demand.
Let us sip from a glass, and taste the sun’s embrace,
In Korčula’s bounty, life finds its grace.
Surrounded by islands, bathed in sunlight’s gleam,
Your shores are a haven, a tranquil dream.
Azure waters invite, so crystal and clear,
We swim and to wander … without a fear.
Korčula, your beauty is a poet’s delight,
A timeless treasure, a beacon of light.
In your embrace, history and nature unite,
A paradise on Earth, where dreams take flight.
