Poem – The City of Besançon

Poem – The City of Besançon

Along the river in Besançon,
The people are kind, and the land is calm.
Within the stone walls of this 18th century home.

Is a city with streets like a honeycomb.

The land speaks a voice from another time.
The rolling hills allow my spirit to gently climb.
There is a silence within these peaceful walls.

Regardless of the great wars that came through without pause.

And yet this city, never lost its inner light.

In the bright summer sun or in the heat of the night.
I find that I wish to linger on the page.

Of the history that is still front and center stage.

And by the morning light within the courtyard.

It is clear that this is a time to not be on guard.

There is within these walls an inviting charm.
One that never intended to do any harm.

And so I sit as the light gathers strength.
Looking at this life’s great joys and great length.
Grateful to be in this place and wonder.
At the sounds of a storm and of a gathering thunder.

That is the sound of change that echoes in these halls.

In the silence something new reaches past old walls.

That is why I am here to discover.

All that I came to be and all that is left to uncover.
