1 + 7 = 8

Today the number 8 brings us to have more conscious breathing and that in turn will bring us more conscious awareness.

We notice when we take a deep breath. Others notice when we express a deep sigh. The body holds so much that we are feeling and experiencing. But there are moments when we need to allow the body to really deeply breathe.

When we breathe in, our soul is saying I am wanting to take in more of life. When we exhale, we are saying that it is time to deeply let something go.

All great meditators know that the key and greatest secret is the breath. Entire systems of spiritual practices are built around types of breathing patterns.

Inhaling through the nose gives us an increase in mental focus, better oxygen absorption in the body, and gives a calming effect to the nervous system. It supports the mind in making better choices because it improves cognitive function. It allows the body and mind to rest, recover, and digest. It improves connection between the body and the mind. It is a physical way for the body to support better mental and emotional stability.

The more we breathe in, the more we are willing to be fully here in this life. It is how our body/mind instinctually asks us to be fully present.

Breathing out, is how we give permission to our body and mind to let go and to release tension and mental clutter. In exhaling, we are saying to all physical, emotional, and mental levels that it is time to slow down and to relax.

Exhales allow your heart to slow down and the mind with it. Exhaling releases toxins in the body and to let go of negative energies from our own life or from others.

The last thing we will do in this life is to take a long and deep exhale. In that final breath, our soul attaches to that exhale and leaves the body.

And there is a very special state of being that is called the “breathless state” in mediation. It is a place that comes around when one moves beyond just this reality and into the deeper states of “Samadhi”. It is a state where the stillness and calmness of the mind and body are so aligned that it is as if time is suspended and actually seems to stop. For some this can be for a short or long period of time.

This is a state of being that cannot be forced but naturally arises as the soul moves into the position of clarity and the ego is allowed to rest and be put to the side.

One feels in the world but also not of the world. It allows the soul to become one with the divine and is a state of profound peacefulness and bliss.

Today, notice your breathing. Notice if you are willing to take more of life in or if you need to release something.

And perhaps I have intrigued you enough to seek out how to move beyond the ego into a more “breathless” state of Samadhi.
