Exploring the Deeper Meaning of the Taurus Moon and the Greek Minotaur Mythology – The Philosopher’s Guide to Understanding Human Nature
The Taurus Moon reminds me of the story of the Minotaur in Greek mythology. Perhaps I am taking a bit of poetic license but upon learning about this ancient story I could not help but notice that the Minotaur is a bull and a man. My brain loves to find symmetry and so instantly I also recognized that in Astrology we use the Bull to explain some the qualities of mankind.
In fact, all the astrological signs are sequences of lessons and human behaviors and conditions that we are all asked to grow through and learn from. The story of the Minotaur is one where this monster is a combination of the head of a bull and the body of a man. He was imprisoned in a dark underground labyrinth. To me, it sounded like the labyrinth of the karmic suffering of earth.
And humanity is a man who (too often) is bull headed, stubborn, righteous, and from denial of our deepest fears and desires, we become evil. In being inflexible, we fall into the shadowy labyrinth of karma and make our unconsciousness … conscious. We are part animal with the primal desires of flesh and we are part a man who has god-like aspirations to become something more.
With the Taurus Moon I celebrate the merging of such vastly different energies. And I remind all of us that the Minotaur cannot really be physically destroyed, but it can be killed with its own horn.
I find that metaphor fascinating, that the monster inside each of us can only be killed when the humanity within understands that what needs to be killed is our fears.
It is our fears that cause us to turn evil when they are unacknowledged. We do evil when we allow our unconscious self to become trapped in the domains of revenge and hate as we navigate the labyrinth of karma in this reality.
We have all chosen to go into the labyrinth of karma to confront our fears and anxieties. This is the path to become more self-aware. We are here to confront the dark forces inside us … head-on. It takes great courage to confront the demon inside of us.
To go into the dark and to find our way back out, we need a thread to be an anchor that will be the guide to lead us out once we complete our task. That tread is the willingness to go into the deepest self and to be willing to explore the vastness that is the labyrinth that is this karmic journey.
Through this process we learn that the greatest inner strengths and personal resilience comes from being willing to accept our flaws and weaknesses. We learn that those judgments of those aspects keep us from being whole and … free. Besides we need to embrace our uniqueness because that will show us our life’s purpose and give deeper meaning to this journey. That is because our challenges, misfortunes and mistakes are a part of who we are and why we become this peculiar configuration of the divine.
