Poem – Living Ghosts
I have danced upon the grandest of stages.
My life has been a complicated book of many interesting pages.
I have worn the finest of silks and Chantilly lace.
I have danced and twirled with infinite grace.
Upon the floors of Marley and wood.
I have danced to explore the bad and the good.
Dance still disturbs my deep sleep.
I cannot stop turning or reaching for a leap.
I have loved the lightness of bejeweled chiffon.
I have expressed the hearts of saloon girls and swans.
I have fought ancient battles that tore countries apart.
I have felt the confusion of how love begins to start.
Along this journey I encountered the greatest of souls.
People that I will remember, even when I am very old.
Together we reached for stars so very high.
We believed that we could make flesh fly.
Beneath the tutus and the golden masks.
Together we lifted up hearts that were downcast.
Intoxicated by the violin in the waltz.
We allowed the flow to move without faults.
In those moments when magic became real.
We were a part of helping humanity heal.
We were the wave spinning a new web.
Reminding the world of more hope than dread.
In ballet we lived many lives and cradled the dead.
We haunted the living and made love in bed.
We will tremble as the ravens lead the last dance.
But we will become the moonlight for the living to glance.
In dance we harvest the flowers of life.
Beauty, pleasure, conflict, and strife.
I want the feelings to carry me away.
As I leave a path for others to follow and play.
I will always be that little girl whose dream was her crown.
She wanted to dance even when no one was around.
That dream was practiced and became a celestial light.
One so bright that it still guides those in the darkest of nights.
