Quote

The Irish ballads made me smile.

Even when I did not understand all the words of the Emerald Isle.
It was as if they touched something in my bones.

An ancient sound coming from the cobblestones.

One minute I was smiling in wonder.

The next the tears pulled me asunder.

And all the while my Irish heart came alive.

I felt at home and like I had finally arrived.

Spent the evening last night at the Celtic Nights music and dance celebration. It was a lovely way to be introduced to Dublin. We sat next to a couple from Scotland and two couples from Canada. They were all very nice people.

Here it seems that everyone is required to be vaccinated to travel to Ireland and so it is as if things are more normal and the way it was pre-pandemic. Which is quite a lovely thing.

I love the Irish music and the whistle flutes are now my new favorite sound.
I will try to get one while I am here. I used to play the regular classical flute when I was younger, but the whistle flute seems much simpler.

Yesterday was a trying day, one that was about just playing games of catchup with sleep.

I managed to sleep on the plane for about 4 hours but as I am an 8-hour girl, that four hours was not enough.

I managed to sleep once we got into the room for a few hours but even with that my biorhythm was all off.

I was concerned that I might not make it through the dinner and show. But I was carried by the smiling faces and the engaging conversations.

Once the music started, I was all in.

That woke up something inside and gave me a thrill and a chill.

The Irish music can make a sad song … strong and determined. Much like the souls of the people who have survived so much.
I love how they enunciate and accent certain sounds and words, certain moments, and markers.

I love the accordions, the long and short whistle flutes, the violins, and the guitar. But most of all I love the lighthearted feelings from the people here. They are a testament to the strength inside the souls of Ireland. The power of healing within music. And the reminder that we should all sing about our lives.

Sing about the good and the bad.
Sing about the grief and those things that are very sad.
But give them a tune that makes your feet tap to the beat.
And never let the hard emotions make you lose sleep.
