Poem – Dancing with the Storm
The sky is dark, and the clouds pour rain.
The land is thirsty, and the winds are a train.
They whip through the trees that block their flow.
Those winds twirl around but continue to blow.
I love a good storm. I love to feel its power and force.
It is the best way that God intends to set a new course.
The redwoods dance and sway in the breeze.
The air is clear, and the storm puts my mind at ease.
Some fear the huge winds and the pounding rain.
But a storm clears my mind and makes me more humane.
It reminds me that there are powerful forces outside.
And regardless of my arrogance, that is human pride.
I know that I am but a speck in a wildly diverse creation.
And that nature is more powerful than all my fixations.
So, as I watch this storm come rolling in.
I take this moment to embrace and begin.
I know that tomorrow is never guaranteed.
And I pity those who focus on money and greed.
Because in that shallow grave that they dig.
They often have forgotten how to really live.
