Poem – Finding the Rings

Aging is a beautiful thing.
What once was … no longer holds any ring.
Those things that were our foundation stones.
Have left us and now, we sit and listen to the tones.

I used to cling so tightly to that rock.
I worried about everything, around the clock.
I wanted to hang on to what had passed.
I feared that the good would never last.

But that was the fear talking … not my heart.
Deep inside something wanted to leap and start.
Many thought I was always a bit too much.
But I wanted to experience it all, with each and every touch.

When I was young, I reached for the stars.
As I am older, I care more for the lions and jaguars.
I want a world that is wild and free.
I want the time to explore what might be.

It is in the simple things that I find the peace inside.
Now that my ego was finally put to the side.
In my life, I have had to say many goodbyes.
I have walked away from conspiracy theories and lies.

I do not follow voices that want to create discord and fear.
Because such a stance keeps the mind too severe.
I choose to see the love and the good.
I intend to remind all that they can … and should.

We can be nice, and we can help those in need.
We should be generous and not allow so much greed.
We can appreciate the simple things.
Because that is where a beautiful song still rings
