Poem – Stand My Ground

I have stood up and looked power right in the eye.

I have not backed down when I saw what I could not deny.

We need more people to have the courage to do the same.
Because what is happening is a horrible game.

That game that those in power will try to play.
Will eventually affect even you … someday.

By then their power will have grown so strong.
That changing the course will take very long.

I know that bullies will never win.
But they will try everything to get under your skin.

I know inside that I would rather look hate right in the eye.
Because they feed on your fear, so that you will deny.

Deny what your heart knows is so very wrong.
Deny your very essence and silence your song.

I would rather die that shatter the truth of who I am.
I will not buy into their games and hate filled scams.

For some the truth is a path that will take them the hard road around.
I prefer to listen to my core and stand my ground.
