Poem – Things That Defy ‘Time’

Ceaselessly ‘time’ moves on.
‘Time’ is a hungry ghost that devours lives and dreams.
Three things defy the voracious appetite of ‘time’: poetry, childbirth, and love.

Poetry
is an immortal flame to beauty and goodness.
Fed by the fires of love, poetry can keep the excitement, beauty and passion alive for as long as there are eyes to see, and mankind has the ability to breathe.
While ‘time’ will eat youth and beauty, poetry captures the essence and energy of that light within a soul and can continue to give that out as literary immortality.

Childbirth is how we can give immortality to life itself. Because as we all know, death will take us all … but some part of us knows that through children we live on and those essential sparks of beauty, skill, and youthful exuberance defy ‘time’ its meal.

True love also defies ‘time’, because when one looks into the eyes of their beloved, they do not see the wrinkles or the sagging skin, they see in their eyes that same eternal spark that is the essence of their beloved.
Love is not fooled by ‘times’ rosy cheeks and sweet lips. Love knows how to linger at the edges of life and death. It defies times illusion of loss and separation. Love is the north star that points the way home, even beyond the constraints of ‘time.’ It is a constant that guides us silently even in the darkest moments.
