Poem – To A Unified Prayer

Yesterday, a deeply wounded soul sent a hateful text.
Reading their rambling religiosity, I was perplexed.
Such souls, lash out with their own pain.
They do not want anyone to help and no one to gain.

They want the answers that speak to them.
To be pushed down our throats and taste like bacon.
But they do not see how weak they are.
They are afraid of everything near or far.

Unless it comes exclusively from their favorite book.
But they have never opened the library of wisdom to have a look.
Young souls grasp at one thing and make it their own.
They want that truth to be the only one known.

But I am a scholar and the more that I read.
The more I discover that every culture has great wisdoms and creeds.
One book may hold many great answers and truths.
We want what we have discovered to be complete in our youth.

But the more I read the more I realize how much I do not know.
The more I study I see how much of great books is borrowed.
So many fail to realize that it has all been said before.
Mankind has sought answers and wisdom on every distant shore.

I have compared the teachings of various cultures and times.
And I see them coalesce into powerful books that are as deep as they are sublime.
I see that we all want the very same things.
We just have small differences because of how wisdom springs.

Cultures and genetics play a big role.
We are drawn to what is familiar to this particular soul.
I believe that it should be a hate crime.
To project one’s truth on others with verbal slime.

I prefer a world where we can intelligently share perspectives.
And together we can become philosophical detectives.
To find the truth that we all can share.
Then make that the law and our unified prayer.
